What is the cheapest way to purchase a cruise?

I’ve cruised before but my dad took care of all the arrangements. Now I’m planning my honeymoon to Alaska on Royal Caribbean and am trying to find the best deal. It seems like buying straight from the site is the easiest way to pay too much for the cruise. Any websites you’ve used that have given you a better deal than buying directly from Royal Caribbean? Are there any down sides to using discount websites?

Orbitz, Cheaptickets, Priceline will all have the same cruise prices.

The biggest and most important thing you can do to get a good deal, is to book the cruise as far in advance as possible. (More than 6 months).

I would try the travel agents to get a quote as to how much the cruise will cost bearing in mind as to what status you want your cabin I E Do you want an inside cabin or an outside cabin .Do you want a room with a balcony .When do you want to travel etc. all these are controling aspects as to what you will be quoted .When you have negotiated your way through all this you then have to decide wich airport you will fly from and what are the hidden extras IE flight supplements ….Holiday insurance …fuel supplements meals on plane seating arrangements yes it is a bloody minefield so when you have got your quote and all these details sorted out then you can start looking for different quotes if you have any energy left …they are all very much the same with one offering things like onboard credits cheaper activities ashore etc.

I always use Carnival. I call them. I do not book online. We use the same vacation planner every cruise, and he always gets us a better deal than the website offers. RCI may do the same.

I have booked through a regular Travel Agent, the cruisline website and an online TA. I am constantly looking for the best deal. I go with whoever has the best price for the ship/itinerary I want. Try vacationstogo.com. They’re a very good place to start your research. I have booked with them and the service is very good.

YOu can try vacationstogo.com, or consult a travel agent who specifies in alaskan cruises, sometimes they have really good relations with the cruise line and can offer you great deals.

    Try

    Click on Book Travel

Click on Cruises in the pink box and go from there — it’s pretty easy and prices are comparable or better than other major companies.

Any more questions, feel free to e-mail me from my Yahoo avatar.

Good luck, congratulations, and happy sailing!

I can tell you that if you book with a cruise line over the phone or an automated web site you will NOT get the best deal.

I have 21 years experience in the travel business and recently launched my own cruise web company. Expedia, Travelocity and other web type cruise bookers all overcharge and some even charge an on-line fee.
Do some homework and check around.
    Thanks and goodluck!
