How do I identify model type for Cruise-o-matic transmission?

I have a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 that I am in the process of parting out. Someone had a question about what model type the Cruise-o-matic transmission is. How can I tell by looking at the car?

Thanks! Terri

  1. Gordon B Says:

The easiest way is by the shape of the Transmission pan and the number of bolts holding the pan on.
I am certain that the 64 Galaxy auto came with the Cruise-O-Matic three speed automatic transmission.
There are 3 sizes of CruisOmatics.
    Small, medium, large.
Small is used behind engines up to 390 CI.
    Medium is 390 CI.
    Large is 410-430.

So, if your Galaxy has a 289 or 352, it should have the Small version and if it is the 390 engine, it should have the Medium one.
The Large were used in Lincolns.
