My husband and I are planning our first Caribbean cruise. Is there an advantage to booking a cruise through the ships website, like Carnival or Royal Caribbean verses booking it through a website like Orbitz or Travelocity?

Try the actual company, but before you do that, try vacationstogo.com.
Thats where we book our cruises. You can get GREAT deals, we paid 500 bucks for a week in the carribbean, not a piece together, our total with tax was like 545 plus the tips you give on the cruise later.
I love cruises, I’m 25 and I’ve been on a lot. If you like Family cruises go with Carnival, it’s very family oriented. Royal Carribbean is aimed at like 21 and up crowds, they normally have singles cruises also on the ship during their sailings.
I’ve seen weddings on Carnival cruises and it was just so kiddie to me.

I like to book directly with the cruise line or a travel agent. You have someone to call if you have any problems. I think the customer service is better.
enjoy your cruise)

I think the difference is that you can get better deals and the cruise will be cheaper on Orbitz and Travelocity. I think its always best to book it on the official site just to make sure they aren’t scamming you for your money
