My boyfriend and I are planning a cruise to Western Carribean in May and I am not too sure about the new passport rules.

Yes. Passports are easy to get. Just go to the post office. However, there have been more delayed in the recent past in getting to you, so have one made ASAP.

YES, in fact you will soon need a passport to return to the US from Canada and Mexico. It was supposed to be this year, but I believe it has been pushed back to 2008.

Actually the real answer is NO. The passport office is saying that sometime in “summer” of 08 they are going to start requiring either a passport - but they are not defining when “summer” is. You can check it out on this official link:

Of course we always suggest that you go ahead and get one - because eventually everyone will need one. If you sail and then have to fly home early, then there could be delays in your return. Also if you miss the ship and have to fly to catch the cruise, you won’t be able to catch the boat.

SO….. go ahead and get one - my assistant in my office is going on a spring break cruise and she got hers back in 3 weeks!
